Hello!
It appears as though the "January Thaw" has come to an abrupt halt. It's currently 26 degrees, and based on the long-term forecast, this is a bit of a heatwave. It's time to pull out the snow shovels, tire chains, and Morton's Mix once again.
With the weather outside returning to a scene more typical of "January in Pittsburgh", I've been trying to think of ways to heat things up inside the club. There is a bit of good news: the sauna, steam room, and whirlpool are all in good working order. Thanks for all of your patience while we were waiting for the necessary parts to arrive to repair the sauna. I, too, enjoy the warm comfort of the sauna after a long day of work.
In an attempt to get you in the sauna, steam room, and whirlpool without scorching your wallet, I got permission from the powers-that-be to offer exclusive discounts to our online community. We currently have about 400 guys on our mailing list. Beginning this weekend, I'm going to start randomly mailing our list a coupon or voucher for some sort of time-specific discount. For instance, I may mail out a voucher on Friday morning that is good for $5 off if you enter after 10 PM on Friday night. Or perhaps you'll get a coupon for a free bottle of lube if you visit on Sunday night. Frankly, I won't know what my offer is until I sit down and write the email. Those of you already on our list (thank you!) should keep an eye out for these emails. If you're not a part of our online community, it's easy to join. Just click HERE and follow the instructions.
I hope to be sending you a great offer soon.
Stay Warm!

Maintenance and the New Year
Happy New Year! I am totally excited about the start of a new decade. The 80s brought us Madonna, the 90s Bill & Monica, the 2000s Club Pittsburgh...what will the “Twenty-Teens” usher in?
I started off the new year by emailing our online community and inviting everyone to visit the club and enjoy the whirlpool, steam room, and dry sauna. As if I need more proof that some angry drag queen has put a hex on me, the moment I hit “send” on my email, the dry sauna stopped working. Apparently, some metal device was dropped into the heating unit, destroying the element. We believe that this metal ring was dropped into the unit intentionally. Unfortunately, our efforts to keep the club functioning and enjoyable are occasionally sabotaged. The sauna will require a new heating element to work properly, and the parts that we ordered immediately have not yet arrived. I, personally, am anxious to have the dry sauna repaired. It has always been my favorite part of cold winter nights.
I have mentioned before that maintenance can be a huge challenge. The club is open 24/7, and the amenities get constant use and abuse. Also, because we are always open, there is never a good time to close an area of the club for repairs without inconveniencing or angering customers. Another big issue is parts: the whirlpool, steam room, and sauna were made specifically for the club, and any parts require a “special order”. (That's a polite way of the supplier saying “expect lots of delays”.) Given all those factors, we try to make repairs as quickly and unobtrusively as possible.
On a positive note, we're working on an idea for February. Each day of the week will have some sort of discount or theme. Sunday is leather night, Monday is “recession proof” with a $7 discount on all rentals, Tuesday is coupon night, etc. Please watch for our February ad – we'll break down each day and its corresponding special.
Best wishes for 2010!

Holiday Update
Hello!
I hope you're having a happy and prosperous holiday season. I'm writing a short post to remind you that Club Pittsburgh will be closed on Christmas Day (Friday, 12/25/2009) from 7 AM to 9 PM.
Of course, we hope you'll stop in for some post-holiday fun when we re-open at 9 PM. We typically have an eclectic “Christmas Crowd” that is a lot of fun. And this year, Christmas falls on a (typically busy) Friday night, which should only add to the merriment.
All of us at Club Pittsburgh wish you a safe & wonderful holiday. I can't wait to hear what Santa left under your tree.

The Holidays, 2010, and BEYOND
Greetings & Salutations...
Are you ready for Santa Claus? The gang at Club Pittsburgh is anxiously awaiting the man with the bag. We had our holiday staff party on December 7th. I was both grateful and excited to be celebrating the season with my Club Pittsburgh family. There were several times over the long winter of 2009 that I didn't think we'd be together for Christmas. I'm pleased to report that we all had a good time, and we're looking forward to extending some holiday cheer to all of you.
Several members have heard rumors that Club Pittsburgh is changing its membership structure. Some of you also know that the club now has a board of directors. Perhaps you've renewed your membership recently, and you noticed that your new membership card looks different. It is true that some changes are coming in 2010. Let me assure you that all of these changes will be positive. We are restructuring the club to increase the your enjoyment and provide you with greater protection under the First Amendment. Most aspects of visiting the club, including rates and rental periods, will remain the same. If you are currently a club member, you will be asked to become a member of the ''new'' club at no charge. This is a simple process that requires completing and signing a short application. We hope to begin this process on January 1. We're currently briefing our staff on all of the changes, and our employees will be able to answer any of your questions beginning January 1.
Obviously, 2009 was a watershed year for Club Pittsburgh. The events surrounding an accidental death at the club in January nearly brought business to a halt. The recession, which has impacted every local gay business, has made recovering from those events extremely challenging. Also, the world is changing very quickly for gay people (and for businesses who depend on the gay community). Most of these changes are positive: There is greater acceptance. Ignorance is being replaced by tolerance. We're gaining important protections from the states where we live and the places where we work. Technology has made meeting and socializing much easier. As a result of these positive changes, however, a lot of gay businesses are competing with innovations and concepts that didn't exist just a few years ago. At Club Pittsburgh, we're constantly trying to find ways to work with the changing world instead of against it. We hope to continue serving our community in 2010 and beyond. Our new structure will make it possible to serve you for many years to come.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to the new Club Pittsburgh. I will be posting more information as the New Year approaches.
Before we celebrate 2010 (and beyond), we're throwing a fabulous holiday party. It's on Saturday, December 19. They'll be cookies, snacks, our popular punch, and a few employees in whacky holiday attire. DJ Billy will be spinning all your holiday favorites.
I hope you'll check us out over the holidays.
Ho! Ho! Ho!

As 2009 Comes to a Close...
Happy Holidays!
I hope this holiday season finds you happy and healthy. It was great to see a lot of old friends visiting Club Pittsburgh over the Thanksgiving weekend. I'm always amused to see familiar faces making the “Same Time Next Year” pilgrimage to Pittsburgh to celebrate the holidays in their home town. Thanks for making us a part of your traditions.
December is by far the busiest month of the year at Club Pittsburgh. The ten days between the Winter Solstice and New Year's Day is a whirlwind of activity, excitement, and fun. Christmas week even surpasses Pride week in attendance. We have a lot of fun things planned to celebrate the holidays and give 2009* a proper ending. DJ Billy will be here every Saturday in December for holiday editions of “Spin Cycle”. The DJ spins from 11 PM to 4 AM; requests and dancing are always welcome. On December 18, we're extending an invitation to all those attending SPARK to continue the celebration at the club. Anyone with a ticket stub from the event will get $7 off of any rental. That's also our monthly Squirt Discount night too, so it should be busy and fun. Our 9th Annual Holiday Party in on Saturday, December 19. Like every year, they'll be cookies, punch, music, and merriment. All the excitement leads to New Year's Eve, which is perhaps our busiest night of the year.
Also in December, we're enhancing our partnerships with both Squirt.org and Gay.com. If you click on our ads on either site, you'll get a little something special. This promotion should be up & running soon. Check it out the next time you're cruising online!
*2009, obviously, got off to a rough start. I can not be more grateful that it's business as usual at Club Pittsburgh as 2009 comes to an end. I will undoubtedly repeat this endlessly as this year and this month pass: THANK YOU for sticking by us through rough times. THANK YOU for your website visits, emails, and calls of concern. THANK YOU for ignoring endless rumors an innuendo. THANK YOU for defending us in the community. And most importantly, THANK YOU for showing up! You're the reason we're still here.
I'm looking forward to an incredible 2010...

Oh, The Holidays!
If you believe the calendar, we're only ten days from Thanksgiving. I'm still working on my September “to do” list, so I'm a tad vexed by the prospect. I do recall fondly, however, that The Most Wonderful Time of the Year is the busiest time of year at Club Pittsburgh. Many of you will soon be making your annual pilgrimage to your hometown to share in holiday merriment with friends and family. While Santa Claus is checking his list to make sure you've been nice thus far this year, we certainly understand your inclination to be a little naughty. (Or frankly, just to escape the hectic holidays and relax a bit...) Either way, a visit to Club Pittsburgh is a great way to celebrate the season.
Pittsburgh will celebrate Light Up Night this Friday. (November 20.) Dubbed “Sparkle Season”, it's the start of Pittsburgh at its most beautiful. The city has tons of fun activities planned to celebrate. Light Up Night is a good excuse to be in the city, and a visit to the city is a good excuse for checking out Club Pittsburgh. This is the weekend that I start to see old friends and familiar faces that have been absent since January 1. Most pass through with a fond memory and a good story or two. (You will hear this theme from me ad nauseam in the coming weeks.) I'm sure we'll have a great crowd after the city's festivities on Friday, and the Saturday “Spin Cycle” with DJ Billy is always a fun (and well attended) night.
That takes us to Thanksgiving week. I've heard from various bartenders over the years that Thanksgiving Eve (Wednesday night) is one of the busiest bar nights of the year. My experience is that the bar crowds continue the celebration at Club Pittsburgh after last call. I wouldn't say that it's the busiest night of the year at the club, but it's certainly one of the most jovial. I typically spend the night greatly amused by both our guests and my co-workers. We are open until 7 AM on Thanksgiving morning, which gives you equal amounts of time to enjoy the club after the bars close and make yourself presentable for Aunt Bea's holiday brunch. (Don't kid yourself – she knows exactly what you've been up to.) We will be closed on Thanksgiving day from 7 AM to 9 PM. It is not at all unusual to have a crowd waiting when we open the doors at 9. Thanksgiving night at the club is really, really fun. I would tell you about my night at Club Pittsburgh last Thanksgiving, but I've promised my bosses to keep this socially acceptable.
I'm sure you're looking forward to the holidays as much as I am. Hopefully, they'll be happy and safe.
I look forward to sharing the holidays with all of you!

Halloween & Beyond
Happy Halloween!
If you haven't already made spooktacular Halloween plans, I have a few suggestions.
First, Club Pittsburgh still has tickets available for the SPELL fundraiser to benefit the Persad Center. The event is from 7 PM to 11 PM on Halloween night. Tickets are $50 each, and if you purchase them at the club, we accept credit as well as cash. For more information about this annual treat, please visit the official SPELL website.
www.SPELLpgh.org
After you enjoy an evening of enchantment at SPELL, continue your celebration at Club Pittsburgh. DJ Billy begins playing the hits for an extra-spooky “Spin Cycle” at 11 PM. Enjoy a refreshing glass of our special holiday “Purple People Eater” punch. And if you bring your ticket stub from SPELL, you'll get $7 off of any rental from 10 PM to 2 AM.
After the big Halloween celebration, we'll all be waking up to November. (Don't forget to turn your clocks back on Saturday night!) We will be hosting DJ Billy every Saturday night in November for Spin Cycle. We've been doing the dance party once a month for most of the year, and the event has been so successful we've decided to extend it to every Saturday for one month. The weekly Spin Cycles will culminate with our annual “Horn O' Plenty” Thanksgiving party on Saturday, November 28. Thanksgiving weekend is traditionally the start of our busiest time of the year. Hopefully, you'll make visiting Club Pittsburgh a part of your holiday traditions this year.
Also in November, we're continuing Recession Proof Mondays and the Tuesday Coupon Special. You can get more information about those on our home page. There are two things you can do to keep up with events, parties, theme nights, and special rates. First, you can check the EVENTS section of our website. I list things there that don't always get mentioned on the home page or the message board. Also, you can get on Club Pittsburgh's mailing list. Just submit your email address on the COMMUNITY section of our website.
