Happy Halloween!
If you haven't already made spooktacular Halloween plans, I have a few suggestions.
First, Club Pittsburgh still has tickets available for the SPELL fundraiser to benefit the Persad Center. The event is from 7 PM to 11 PM on Halloween night. Tickets are $50 each, and if you purchase them at the club, we accept credit as well as cash. For more information about this annual treat, please visit the official SPELL website.
www.SPELLpgh.org
After you enjoy an evening of enchantment at SPELL, continue your celebration at Club Pittsburgh. DJ Billy begins playing the hits for an extra-spooky “Spin Cycle” at 11 PM. Enjoy a refreshing glass of our special holiday “Purple People Eater” punch. And if you bring your ticket stub from SPELL, you'll get $7 off of any rental from 10 PM to 2 AM.
After the big Halloween celebration, we'll all be waking up to November. (Don't forget to turn your clocks back on Saturday night!) We will be hosting DJ Billy every Saturday night in November for Spin Cycle. We've been doing the dance party once a month for most of the year, and the event has been so successful we've decided to extend it to every Saturday for one month. The weekly Spin Cycles will culminate with our annual “Horn O' Plenty” Thanksgiving party on Saturday, November 28. Thanksgiving weekend is traditionally the start of our busiest time of the year. Hopefully, you'll make visiting Club Pittsburgh a part of your holiday traditions this year.
Also in November, we're continuing Recession Proof Mondays and the Tuesday Coupon Special. You can get more information about those on our home page. There are two things you can do to keep up with events, parties, theme nights, and special rates. First, you can check the EVENTS section of our website. I list things there that don't always get mentioned on the home page or the message board. Also, you can get on Club Pittsburgh's mailing list. Just submit your email address on the COMMUNITY section of our website.

G-20 Adventures & Gay-Dot-Com
Many of our customers and friends are still very curious about Club Pittsburgh and the events surrounding the G-20 Conference. Even though nearly a week has passed since the big event was in town, nearly every member that comes to the window still has G-20 questions. Those on our email list got a message on Thursday afternoon that we were closing until Friday evening. This was a surprise even to me. It had been our intention all along to remain open during the conference. We received dozens of calls, emails, and inquiries in the weeks prior to the event, and we assured customers that although downtown would be restricted to vehicles, there would be pedestrian access to the club. Admittedly, we were hoping to attract those visiting town for the conference. When I left the club after my shift at 11 PM on Wednesday, however, it became apparent that there were unanticipated problems. I had trouble leaving the downtown area a full hour before the restrictions even officially began. I ended up taking a bizarre route home to my neighborhood south of downtown. (And I was amused to discover the West End Circle is no longer a circle.) My plan all along had been to take the bus to work on Thursday afternoon. While waiting for the bus shortly after noon, my boss called and told me that another co-worker was unable to get into town from my neighborhood. I took the bus to the Smithfield Street Bridge and started walking. At the intersection of 10th and Liberty, a very handsome crew of military men told me that I couldn't go any further. There was chain-link fencing and cement barriers everywhere. Protestors were marching down Liberty Avenue. This all happened around 1:30 PM. I called my boss from the intersection and we decided to close at 3 PM on Thursday and re-open at 7 PM on Friday. My co-worker never made it to the club, either.
I still couldn't access downtown by car as late as 7 PM on Friday. I parked on the Southside and walked across the Smithfield Street Bridge into town. As I was walking, crews were busily removing the barricades and barriers. Penn Avenue was open to traffic by the time I reached the club. By midnight, the city was back to normal. We ended up having a busy and fun weekend. My apologies to anyone who may have tried to visit the club during the summit and got curtailed. I don't anticipate closing for the day again until Thanksgiving!
That was my G-20 adventure. I used my unexpected evening off to put the finishing touches on our Gay.com campaign. Beginning on Thursday, October 1, you will see Club Pittsburgh ads when chatting on Gay.com or perusing profiles. The ads will appear randomly between 6 PM and 4 AM until the end of the year. Be sure to click on the ad and see where it takes you. And if you connect with a great guy on Gay.com but have nowhere to meet, please consider Club Pittsburgh!

Thank YOU!
Hi 'n@!
All of us at Club Pittsburgh would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to all of you that helped us celebrate our 8th Anniversary this past Saturday. It was a great night with plenty of music, friends, and fun. In a span of only two short hours, we gave away a whopping 75 lockers. In fact, we were nearly out of lockers and completely out of rooms for most of the night. Wow -- that's an incredible way to celebrate 8 great years and kick off the 9th! I'd like to offer a special thanks to DJ Billy for providing excellent entertainment for the guests and staff. We are planning customer appreciation events in the future that will be similar to our anniversary parties. Please check back frequently for more details.
I am pleased to announce that you'll soon be seeing Club Pittsburgh on Gay.com. We're still working on the final details, but it's our hope that Club Pittsburgh ads will begin appearing on Gay.com beginning October 1. The ads will appear when you're chatting or browsing personals, and you'll be able to "click through" to our website for information and offers. Be sure to mention that you saw us on Gay.com when you visit the club!
I have been getting tons of phone calls, emails, and inquiries about Club Pittsburgh and the G-20. As I mentioned in the last post, we will definitely be open. Obviously, negotiating through downtown will be tricky during the conference. There will be no vehicle access in the blocks surrounding the club, but there are several pedestrian routes. Each of the three local television news organizations have detailed G-20 information posted on their websites, as do the Post-Gazette and the Trib. If you plan on visiting the club during the conference, please check out these sites. They will provide you with information about bus routes, parking, pedestrian access, etc.
Finally, we will soon be announcing some changes to our membership policies. These are simple changes that will greatly benefit the club and its members. We're doing some basic restructuring to help better protect your privacy and secure your freedoms. Please check the website in the coming weeks for additional information. We will pass any important information onto you as soon as it's available. I thank you in advance for your patience during this process -- I promise it will be worth it.
Thanks & Gratitude,

Club Pittsburgh and the G-20
Greetings.
Wow – can you believe that today is the last day of August? Today is the end of “Meteorological Summer”. It looks as though we're going to have a week of cooler temperatures, too. It's hard to believe that 2009 is starting to wind down.
As September approaches, so does the G-20 Conference and Pittsburgh's time on the world stage. Obviously, Club Pittsburgh is just a few blocks from the convention center. We've had a lot of people with various concerns: will we be open, will there be access to the club, etc. Local business leaders had a meeting last week to discuss the conference. There is great concern from the business owners that hype and misinformation will discourage folks from coming downtown during the G-20. A lot of the “lockdown scenarios” are just innuendo and hype. Many decisions about how the city will manage security haven't been made, and many details haven't been released. We do know that the city is encouraging businesses to stay open and patrons to visit downtown.
Currently, Club Pittsburgh has every intention of remaining open during the conference. We are aware that there will be additional transportation and parking issues, and we suggest that our members plan accordingly. The city plans to release more details after the Labor Day holiday. As we get more information, I will pass it along to you.
Keep this in mind: If there is any reason for us to alter our hours of operation during the G-20, I will post it immediately in the largest and most obvious font possible on our homepage. For now, our plan is to operate normally.
Happy Meteorological Autumn --

Craig's List, Again
I've recently received some email from a concerned friend of the club who was distressed over recent postings on Craig's List. I have had several customers mention malicious posts that have appeared in the “Rants & Raves” section of the website. I certainly appreciate all of your concerns. I've also noticed that other posters are turning against the negative poster in droves. Thank you for that!
Unfortunately, the club has been dogged by these negative posts on Craig's List for nearly a year. The format of the website keeps the poster anonymous, so we have no way of knowing who he (or possibly she) is. I've said before that I think this person is nothing short of a bigoted coward. If he feels so strongly about Club Pittsburgh, I invite him to post here. This is a somewhat “democratic” format – he can make claims, and I (or you) can refute them. His latest tale is that he's infected over 200 men with HIV at the club in the past year. Where do I even start with this? First, nobody can infect another with anything without the other party participating. Personal responsibility and safety are important issues whether you meet someone in a bar, a bathhouse, the internet, or an alley. I do not have any concern that someone can “unwittingly” infect me with anything. I know that my personal choices dictate whether I get HIV, HPV, or for that matter, the swine flu. You can't get pregnant from a toilet seat, and you can't get AIDS from a building. It's that simple. I'm assuming he's written these ominous postings to discourage you from visiting the club. The rationale: guys stop visiting Club Pittsburgh because they're scared, we go broke, and we close. The flaw: in order to have connected with 200 guys in one year, he would had to have visited the club at least 100 times. Even at a discount, it's more or less a minimum of $10 per visit, which means he'd have spent at least $1000 at the club in that year. Do you think spending a thousand bucks at the club is an effective strategy for putting us out of business? The logic is warped and silly, right?
Remember that the next time you see one of these posts on Craig's List.
There was also some concern because this guy (or gal) posted photos from the club. To the uninformed observer, it appears as though he took those photographs while he was here, violating our members' privacy. That is not the case. All of those photos, at one time or another, appeared on the Club Pittsburgh website. He pilfered them from our galleries. I'm truly grateful to whomever pointed these photos out to me, and I assure you the poster was not the photographer.
I appreciate your care and concern for Club Pittsburgh. Please don't let these ridiculous Craig's List posts worry or alarm you.
Sincerely,
Damian Campbell
